The Very Hungry Caterpillar

"In the light of the moon a little egg lay on a leaf." So begins Eric Carle's modern classic, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. More than 12 million copies of this book have been sold in its original, full-sized edition, and the beloved tale of science and gluttony has been translated into 20 languages. This five-by-four-inch miniature edition is truly tiny, with tiny type, but it is a nice size for small hands to hold and flip through the pictures. Despite its diminished state, the book is complete in every detail, following the ravenous caterpillar's path as he eats his way through one apple (and the pages of the book itself) on Monday, two pears on Tuesday, three plums on Wednesday, and so on, through cherry pie and sausage--until he is really fat and has a stomachache. And no doubt you know what happens next! Kids love butterfly metamorphosis stories, and this popular favorite teaches counting and the days of the week, too. A fun gift package for caterpillar fans. Baby bazaars

A growing number of mothers overflow area, where mothers markets gently used baby and children's clothing, toys and gear to be sold at a fraction of retail prices.

With the baby carriers strapped to their chest, and tote bags in their hands, these mothers were on a mission.

About 800 mothers, sisters, Grandma, pregnant women and a few unwilling man stood in a line on a Saturday morning outside of Golgotha Church in Rotterdam, waiting for the doors to open and the rush to get started.Organized by the Pennridge women's network, these mothers market is one of the many for the child-centered flea markets in popularity and numbers in this area is growing.

Usually held in a church or a fire House, of the niche markets are each usually held once or twice a year. Individuals table capacity on the market for every sale will let their gently used baby and children's items or some market organizers will each item label and cut the individual seller a share of the profit. at Calvary Church, a maze of 1600 tables of individuals selling their wares waiting eagerly buyers. If the morning of the Black Friday, these mothers arrived early, had a list of the items they were for hunting and talked strategy before the doors opened.

"You have to go against the crowd, like Disney," said Jeanne Forbes of upper Gwynned a friend who had travelled from Philadelphia to come onto the market.

The markets are a great way for families to buy children, baby equipment and clothing bargain, said Monica green of perkasie, Pennsylvania.

It's crazy, "she said, the crowd."I think it's great for mothers who are a lot of children, and they do not have to pay full price for stuff."

If the doors are open, hundreds of forward lunge in the Church. Many break into a Sprint if they head for the tables, stacked high with baby and children.

Pregnant women and mothers who are new to the market seemed overwhelmed, not sure which direction to rotate or which item to retrieve. the more seasoned vets resurfaced for baking of boys and girls clothes tucked under many of the tables.

"Have you girls 2T? what about boys 18 months? how much money for the shoes guys?" call mothers.

For sale, it is an opportunity that large baby stuff and grown-out-of children clothing that has been piling up and make some extra money to unload.

"I just want to get rid of all my stuff. no more babies," said Jaclyn Pijut of Bethlehem.

For some, it is a chance to make enough money to buy another phase of children's toys and clothing.

"I think it is awesome," said Heather Sweet of sellersville, Pennsylvania. They expected at around $ 200, so that they are for her 2 1/2-year-old son to other mothers tables shopping can be."This is a way for me to swap stuff to buy."

Mothers markets a financial solution for more and more families, said Jennifer McGowan Smith, organizer Bucks Mont mothers of more than one child sniffing around for sale.

"I think that mothers are blown away," said McGowan Smith, with regard to the choice and quality of products on the markets."You have to register on all of these items. you go to Babies" R "US or anywhere else, and for $ 500 and $ 800 baby items can register – really you can move on to the sales clutter and get exactly what you need for a fraction of that."

The Plumstead mother of 3-year-old boy and girl twins is the markets for her children winter clothing shops. they recently released a pre-owned winter coat bought for $ 4 for her son.

The markets are valuable "for the clothes, in particular,. snow winter jackets, pants and boots of snow – all these things, they add up."

"In this economy you will hear often people lose their jobs, people who do not have enough money. you really should take a look at what you spend. provides a space for you to what you need without a lot of money," said McGowan Smith. "Children go as fast by the clothes. it is comforting to know that there are resources out there that families can see. "

On the clothes tree children's consignment event in Benner Hall in richlandtown, Pennsylvania this weekend, hundreds of mothers thread baby stuff, toys, books and much much children clothing.

Organizer Dawn Nimble Rayan has their senders of tagging items with a supplied barcode generator. Senders will receive 60% of the profit (some received 70% if she volunteers to work on the sale).

By sorting the clothes racks by sex and size and group the gear, such as the identification of sections for children's highchairs available on request, grab n ' plays and baby swings, the scene is less chaotic for shoppers, said Nimble. the event is deployed as a storage; each item is marked with a price tag, it includes cash registers and also accepts credit cards.

The structure of the clothing is especially popular for pregnant and first-time mothers who apply to the Web site for a "golden ticket to be able to" that will allow them to shop before the sale is officially opened.

"I think the reason why our presale popular is that the first time mothers who equipment buy at least half-off of what they would pay for the new," she said.

For the last two years ago, the former Bucks County 911 dispatcher The Tree of clothing, they still company increase.

"It's been amazing. the sales has grown rapidly. almost every time, I'll get a further 25% of the participants," said Nimble, who makes an estimate of about 900 shoppers visited the spring event.

Pennridge women's network and The Tree clothing, like many of the mothers, in both the spring and fall.

At the end of the most mothers markets, many of the items that have not been sold donated to local charities.
